Advisory Board for the Master Programme

The Advisory Board consists of representatives from the industry who supports the master programme and give good advice. The board members are presented below.

Energy-efficient buildings are developing quickly. Under the last 10 years, the interest amongst constructors and real estate developers increased significantly. The European Union, individual countries and municipalities make demands on lower energy consumption. To satisfy these interest, needs and requirements; resources are need, both human and technical. The demand will exceed the supply.

Currently, there are only a few educational programmes with a direct focus on energy-efficient buildings. The master programme at the LTH campus Helsingborg has quickly become sought-after. The reason is the knowledge and the long tradition the LTH and its teachers can offer. For example, the passive house principle was born at LTH, followed by constant research and developments over the years within this and adjacent areas.

The students who hitherto have obtained their Master's degree have shown both talent as knowledge. I am confident that they will be much sought-after during their career.

I work on a daily basis with construction projects where sustainability and energy efficiency are a top priority. The market is desperately short of competence in this field. We need professionals with relevant expertise, able to grasp the essential aspects of complex scenarios.

LTH’s Masters programme in Energy-efficient and Environmental Building Design (Helsingborg) provides students with an ideal qualification. A basis in architecture or construction engineering is here complemented with a two-year specialisation. The aptly qualified graduates therefore possess the right tools to build a sustainable society.

On our journey to a Sustainable future, it is important that we increase and utilize our knowledge in the area of building design. The environmental impacts from buildings are considerable and the opportunities to improve are immense.

After decades of very cheap (and dirty) energy and an economy characterized by short-termism we need to quickly move on to a far more sustainable and resource-effective lifestyle. This is ever so valid in the built environment.

The prospect that there is a “quick-fix” to the predicament we are currently facing, or small incremental improvements allowing us to continue Business-as-usual is not realistic, we need transformation.

The master programme “Energy-efficient and Environmental Building Design” features a combination of knowledge essential to achieve the technical and cognitive leap we so urgently need within the Building industry – I only wish it had come sooner…None of us have experienced a Sustainable World – its imperative that we join forces to get there.

Sören Andersson is, after more than thirty years of national and international experience in various positions within the construction industry, holding a position as Sustainability Coordinator at Bengt Dahlgren AB, one of Swedens leading consulting firms within building design, technical installations, environmental certification etc.

He is also part of the Master programmes Business council, member of the Technical Advisory Board at Sweden Green Building Council, certification-scheme “Miljöbyggnad”, involved in a number of business organisations and a keen blogger on Sustainability at www.sorenandersson.com

Energy plays an indispensable role in our community. It is crucial for economic growth which is the basis for improved public health. However, the perspective on energy has changed to sustainability. The production of energy is changing from “take, make, dispose” to an efficient and sustainable system perspective aiming to reduce primary resources and fossil energy consumed. We are changing from a linear to a circular economy. 

Öresundskraft AB, the local energy service company, has taken leaderships in this challenge which is formulated in our vision “Energy for a better world”. In a sustainable energy system the end user perspective is as important as the energy generation perspective.

The building sector in Sweden represents 40% of the total energy use. In the development of a sustainable energy system building design is a key component. Hence, the master programme in Energy-efficient and Environmental Building Design has immediate and significant impact on the energy system. This unique and pioneering master programme in Helsingborg is a key factor for a sustainable energy system. I am very proud, and honored, to be part of the Advisory Board and the future.
